There will be two very prominent and bright comets this year, one in March the other before Christmas.

Following the death of 83-year old Polish Cardinal Priest Józef Glemp on January 23, 2013, we now have 11 vacancies in total, 7 of them titles. This was the first cardinal to die since the November 24, 2012 cardinal creating consistory.

This is a rather special, historic title that has produced 5 popes and two anti-popes; Leo XII (#253), the last pope to hold this title. There is even a good U.S. connections. It was the title given to James Gibbons, the 2nd American to ve created. Prior to Glemp, it was held by another Pole, Pope John Paul II’s (#255) mentor Stefan Wyszyński. There will be a lot of competition for this title, though I suspect they will now keep it for a good Pole or a rich American.
