St. Mary Major post Bernard Law with Santos Abril y Castello by Anura Guruge

Putting all the other horrendously disturbing facets of this ugly issue aside, it had always bothered me as to why the pope picked THIS, the largest and most dear of the Roman Marian churches, as signified by ‘Maggiore’ — given that St. Mary is BEST known as A MOTHER and a VIRGIN.

We know that the pope, before his incapacitated by his ailments, had an impish sense of humor. Was he having a joke on all of us?

  1. When I first saw “under new management” and Hebrew script, I thought the Vatican sold the church to the local Jewish community. What’s the deal with the Hebrew?

  2. I am just showing off to make Louis jealous because he hasn’t worked out what it says!
So what do YOU think it says? ‘For Sale’?
My thinking is that Mary would appreciate Hebrew better than she would English … and my Aramaic is real rusty. What about you?
    All the best. Happy Thanksgiving.
    Cheers.

  3. I say if King James Bible was good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for me. ;)
Actually, I have no idea what it says since I know zero Hebrew – I can just recognize the script, I’m, afraid. :(

Happy Thanksgiving (belated) to you too. I hope you had a great one.

  4. Dis,
Talking of King Jame’s there is a BRILLIANT article about that bible in ‘this’ month’s National Geographic. Here is a link: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/12/king-james-bible/nicolson-text
Try and read it if you can. They kept the Hebrew to zero, so you would be OK.
As for the Hebrew sign in the sky … it says, and I will just give you a clue: ‘Hal … ‘ Now USE your imagination to fill in the blanks.
Cheers. Just writing a post that will interest and possibly even intrigue you.
All the best. Happy Turkey to you too. The Chinese can’t cook Turkey! They think it is duck and roast it to a crisp!
    Cheers.
