Yes, I had noted that this, the 5th oldest ranking, would come to be in February 24, 2012.

Pope Benedict XVI became the 6th oldest, as of 1400,
on March 1, 2012 overtaking John Paul II (#265).
—-

He had become the 7th oldest, as of 1400, on July 19, 2010.

For the first time in 834 days, 2 years 3 months, John Paul II and Benedict XVI are not next to each other in the ‘Oldest Popes Since 1400‘ chart. The current pope with 245 more days as pope, i.e., 8 months longer, has drawn ahead and will continue to do so.

This is quite a significant achievement, getting up to the top 5, albeit since 1400.

  1. For the first time in 834 days, 2 years 3 months, John Paul II and Benedict XVI are not next to each other in the ‘Longest Papacies Since 1400′ chart. The current pope with 245 more days as pope, i.e., 8 months longer, has drawn ahead and will continue to do so.

You made a small mistake here right? It’s the ‘Oldest Popes since 1400′ chart, not the ‘longest papacies’ one. And B16 has 245 more days than JP2 alive, not as pope. B16 would have to live to ripe old age of 105 to achieve that feat and that would put him over L13 by 12 years in your “oldest” chart.

Only in the Catholic Church would “since 1400″ be prefaced with “albeit”. :)

  2. Thanks ‘Dis’. You are, in your infallible incarnation, RIGHT. I will fix right away. I was rushing to post it BEFORE Sandy. As it happened, MAYBE because you made sure I was sheltered, we dodged the bullet. Didn’t lose power. Lost Internet for a few hours, BUT I opted to stop working at 4pm and spend the time with family. Good move. Worked out.
You are RIGHT. ‘Albeit’ is not a word used by the Church BUT, thank God, I am not ‘Church’!
    Thanks. Cheers, Anura
