This was a table that I created c. 2010 for yet another pope book. I planned to use the timeline for Pius X’s (#258) canonization as the baseline for discussing the time taken to achieve other beatifications and canonizations. Then came those of John Paul II (#265) and Mother Teresa. This table was widely used on my ‘Popes and Papacy’ blog, especially when John XXIII (#262) also came into the picture.
The last couple of nights I set about updating it to include Paul VI (#263).
And I am glad I did so because it immediately highlighted some germane points.
Paul VI’s beatification took 1 year less than that for John XXIII.
I do not think ANYBODY, in particular Paul VI, will think that that is right.
It is NOT a big deal. It is just incongruous. Paul VI will always follow in the shadow and footsteps of his predecessor, friend and mentor, the incomparable John XXIII.
Well study the table. Make some of your own observations. Enjoy.
